Laser Season is Here

It is officially Fall - tans are fading, sweaters are reemerging, and laser season has begun. Although some laser treatments can be done year round, during the colder months we are less likely to expose our skin to the sun allowing for safe treatment with more ablative lasers. The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Fraxel Dual, and Deka Co2 lasers all require you to limit sun exposure prior to treatment due to the risk from UV exposure.

Lumecca Intense Pulse Light, also known as IPL, is an effective post-summer treatment for those who have fair to medium skin types. This laser uses multiple wavelengths of light to improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation from previous sun damage. It also reduces the visibility of most benign brown pigmentation and redness caused by broken capillaries. Lumecca IPL treatments can be done on the face, neck, décolletage, legs, arms, and hands. The down time for IPL is approximately 4-6 days, and the treatment takes about 30 minutes.

Another beneficial laser perfect for those who want to target texture and hyper pigmentation is the Fraxel Dual Laser. The Fraxel treatment is proven to be effective for photo-damage, mild to moderate periorbital wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, and actinic keratosis (a common pre-cancer). When receiving this treatment, it is expected to see results immediately, as well as overtime since it has collagen remodeling properties. Recovery time for this laser is approximately 4-6 days, and the treatment takes about 45 minutes.

The Deka Co2 Laser is the gold standard laser for scaring and offers patients safe skin rejuvenation. The Co2 laser targets a variety of cosmetic goals that can be achieved ranging from improvement of fine lines, deep wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, pore size, skin laxity, and irregular textured crepey skin. Depending on your desired outcomes of the treatment will determine the amount of downtime.

There are many lasers on the market, and all target different skin issues and maintenance. It is important to discuss your desired outcomes with a provider and decide which laser is right for you. As your tan begins to fade, you can think about booking a consultation and start your custom treatment plan.
